about

This is an album of rarities/B-sides/Singles from my old writing duo, Hotel for Margaret. Some of the most badass music I've ever had a hand in creating (or that's my opinion at least).

I went through and did my best cleaning up and remastering each track as much as I could. There wasn't a lot needed, as these have always been some solid pieces of music all around.

Track Name: I Can Sleep Tomorrow
Verse 1:
I can sleep tomorrow, it's not that big a deal,
Cause now I'm crossing borders, into unknown territories,
I know that this must make me look just a little bit crazy,
For something different, but that's where you come in now,
I know you'll listen to every single word I have to say,
about the destination that I took to get here.

Verse 2:
And now I'm frozen, I'm at a lack of go,
My brain can't publish the words onto this tongue,
I use to do it with such elegant and graceful fashion,
And now I murmur "it's better than before,"
All I produce were stutters, while over the phone,
And I know you'll get frustrated with me,
And tell me just to shut up.

Chorus:
A hundred miles is only a hands length away,
On these road maps, and when I think it through,
I know I'm without you,
A hundred miles is only a hands length away,
On these road maps and when I think it through
I know I'm without you,
For just a little bit longer,
For just a little bit,

Verse 3:
Sleep my dear, dreaming those dreams
That have come so clear to me,
And sleep is coming easy,
It makes the world spin,
It makes the world sleep tight,
It makes the world question who we are,
and we're flawed.
Track Name: Delicate
Verse 1:
I need sleep, in a desperate way,
But there's something about you that keeps me awake,
I lack charm, at the end of the day,
It's just me and myself getting in my own way,
It won't hurt, if you say it's ok,
I'll just keep to myself, I'll keep out of your way,
It's your life, and I'll do what you say,
Just know I will be waiting at the end of the day,

Chorus:
Some might say your apathy; but I think you're delicate,
Others say that your empty; but I know you're beautiful,

Verse 2:
I saw you, the other day,
Hanging out the bar where my band used to play,
You stood there, with a smile on your face,
When they dimmed down the lights you just lit up the place,
I stayed still, and watched you sing a song,
And the universe stopped when the melodies on,
I need sleep, in a desperate way,
But there's something about you that keeps me awake,

Chorus:
Some might say your apathy; but I think you're delicate,
Others say that your empty; but I know you're beautiful,
Track Name: Sweet Irony
Verse 1:
I swore it up and down that this would be a sure thing,
And then I closed my eyes, and all I got was short changed,
Oh irony, why must you always have to play games with this heavy heart,
It's had enough,
I tried to learn and fly, and all I earned was land wings,
And then I tried again, and all I learned was how to sink,
Into your arms, into your life.

Chorus:
So please, please, stay simple and unique,
You firefly; you light my sky,

Verse 2:
And now the walls come tumbling, feels like falling over,
And you're beside yourself, and I'm just getting older,
The world is weighing down, it's turned my tired heart,
Into a block of stone,
I leapt into the sky, and landed on your heart strings,
And then I realized that this would be the closest thing that I'd get,
To being close to you.

Chorus:
So please, please, stay simple and unique,
You firefly; you light my sky,
Oh why, Oh why,
You light my sky.
Track Name: Down by the Lakehouse
Verse 1:
Meet me out by the lakehouse,
Walk me down to the shore,
I'll tell all of my secrets,
If you will tell me yours.

Chorus:
Skipping stones, All my own,
Dig up your past, bury these bones,
How far can you throw, on your own?
When you're around, I'm never alone.

Backing Chorus:
(Skipping Stones)
(All my own)
Track Name: Same Old Song
Verse 1:
Take it from me, this is not make believe,
It's as cruel and real as life can be.
It's the same old song, and it's played a million times,
put a dollar in the jukebox, and songs only cost a dime.

Verse 2:
It's the same old song,
And you always sing along,
you always sing along.
And yet you never know,
The words are always wrong,
The words are always wrong.

Verse 3:
My own two feet,
keep me planted in the dirt,
keeps me close to what I need,

I'm lost for sleep,
got my mind set on your eyes,
got your heart upon my sleeve.
Track Name: Weathered Walls
Verse 1:
The man, he's so flawed, but writes such pretty songs,
It's a shame when his name's said, it's always said wrong
but as soon as they cheer, he disappears,
tired and gray, he had a scar on his face,
when I asked how he got it, he wiped it away,
and he walked to the stage, with a smile in it's place.

Chorus:
Turn the tables, turn the lights off,
the switches never work,
it only get worse,
Hide your secrets in the holes that,
the weathered walls create,
and pray that they're safe.

Verse 2:
The lady in green, she wore her heart on her sleeve,
and whenever you touched it, it started to bleed,
but she swore it ok, it got her through the day.
It stops us from moving backwards,
and getting the honest answers.
Track Name: Your Way There (DEMO)
Verse 1:
Clear and focused on the walkway,
Feeling lost out on the center stage,
Just don't lose your head.

Verse 2:
Clear and focused on the walkway,
Feeling lost out on the center stage,
Pirouttes and spinning dreams,
Life ain't always what it seems,
Just learn to breathe,
Don't let the critics try to burn you
Absent minded group of hollow fools,
Set your sights on shining lights,
The marquee reads your name so bright,
Just learn to be.

Bridge:
Everything you ever wanted,
Everything you ever,
Thought was always out of reach,
You'll clear you head and learn to see,

Chorus:
Your way there,
Your way out of here,

Verse 3:
It's important that you move slow,
So the camera doesn't lose you,
It's time for you to prove your worth,
And dance across this barren turf,
And follow through.
Front and center I'll be waiting,
Front and center I'll be waiting,
Front and center I'll be waiting,
Front and center I'll be waiting,
There to light your spark,
It's time for us to show you off,

Chorus:
Your way there,
Your way out of here,
Your way there,
Your way out of here,
Track Name: Waiting (DEMO)
Verse 1:
Sitting patiently, Waiting for my ride,
I'm stuck alone, on the other side,
Of the wall you built, between you and me,
Sitting here alone, waiting patiently.

Verse 2:
You built me up, just to tear me down,
As I walked the streets, on your side of town,
And I watched the sky, as it fills with stars,
You're forever close, but you're oh so far away,

Bridge:
I wish that you could stay,
But there comes a day,
When you have to say,
Goodbye

Chorus:
I'm waiting, I'm waiting,
I'm waiting for you to (Say Anything)

Verse 3:
As you turn away, and forget my face,
Don't believe a thing, I'm about to say,
You were always sweet, you were always tame,
You will always stay, on these autumn days, away,

Bridge:
I wish that you could stay,
But there comes a day,
When you have to say,
Goodbye

Chorus:
I'm waiting, I'm waiting,
I'm waiting for you to (Say Anything)
